Past Hickok Belt Award ® winners are truly a select group – a veritable who’s who of sports icons. The award has celebrated the incredible careers of leading figures throughout sports. With names like Ali, Mantle, Brown, Namath, Palmer, Phelps and James it is an impressive list to be sure. Arnold Palmer (1960)

Golf’s first star of the television age, Palmer helped bring the game to the masses. The Latrobe, Pennsylvania, native captured people’s fancy with his everyman stroke and his ability to come from behind. His fans became known as Arnie’s Army. Palmer won ninety-four professional tournaments, including seven majors and led the PGA Tour in earnings and scoring average four times. A member of the World Golf Hall of Fame since 1974, Palmer has long been a successful entrepreneur. He was involved in the formation of the Golf Channel, has been a prominent pitchman and has designed scores of courses, including the first one in the People’s Republic of China. Palmer was born on September 10, 1929.
