Ben Hogan (1953)

Known for his fluid swing and superb shot-making ability, “Bantam Ben” won sixty-eight professional golf tournaments during his career, including three majors—the Masters and U.S. and British Opens—during his Hickok-winning year in 1953. The sensational season capped a remarkable comeback from a near-fatal automobile accident on a fog-shrouded bridge east of Van Horn, Texas, on February 2, 1949. His triumphant return was depicted by Hollywood in the film Follow the Sun: The Ben Hogan Story. In 1953, Hogan started his own company to manufacture golf clubs and golf equipment. The Stephenville, Texas, native died in 1997 at age eighty-four.
