Meet the Hickok Belt Award® Winners

Past Hickok Belt Award ® winners are truly a select group – a veritable who’s who of sports icons. The award has celebrated the incredible careers of leading figures throughout sports. With names like Ali, Mantle, Brown, Namath, Palmer, Phelps and James it is an impressive list to be sure. Frank Robinson (1966)

The only player to win most valuable player awards in both the American and National leagues, Robinson finished his baseball playing career in 1976 with 586 home runs, fourth all-time at the time of his retirement. The slugging right fielder was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982, the first year he was eligible, and achieved additional fame in 1975 when he became the first African American to manage in the big leagues, taking over the reins of the Cleveland Indians. The Beaumont, Texas, native managed four different teams and also has worked as a broadcaster and an advisor in the baseball commissioner’s office. Robinson was born on August 31, 1935.
