Past Hickok Belt Award ® winners are truly a select group – a veritable who’s who of sports icons. The award has celebrated the incredible careers of leading figures throughout sports. Willie Mays (1954)

Regarded by many as the greatest all-around player of all-time, Willie Mays made twenty-four All-Star teams and won twelve Gold Gloves and two National League Most Valuable Player awards in a career that saw the San Francisco Giants centerfielder smack 660 home runs and earn first-ballot election to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979. His catch of Vic Wertz’s blast to deep center during the 1954 World Series is considered one of the most famous plays in baseball history. Since retiring, Mays has spent much of his time making appearances at dinners and baseball card autograph shows. He’s been a special assistant to the president of the San Francisco Giants since 1985. The “Say-Hey Kid” was born on May 25, 1931.
