Jake Arrieta Named Hickok Belt® Award Winner for April 2016
ROCHESTER, NY – Jake Arrieta, pitcher for Major League Baseball’s Chicago Cubs has been named the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of April 2016. Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). The voters selected Arrieta based on his phenomenal performance throughout the month, including tossing a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds on April 21. It was Arrieta’s second no-hitter, coming less than a year after throwing his first no-hitter on August 2015. For the month, Arrieta posted a 5-0 record and a 1.00 ERA.
Other finalists for the month of August in order of how the NSMA voters ranked them included: Steph Curry (basketball), Nolan Arenado (baseball), Atsede Baysa (track & field), Lemi Berhanu Hayle (track & field), Matt Murray (hockey), Manny Pacquiao (boxing), Tyler Johnson (hockey), James Harden (basketball) and Gennady Golovkin (boxing).
His selection as the Hickok Belt® Award winner for the month of April 2016 recognizes Arrieta as “the best of the best” in professional sports for the month and makes him the fourth candidate eligible to receive the overall Hickok Belt® Award for 2016, joining Novak Djokovic, Steph Curry and Jason Day.
